Minutes of Meeting—Dec 4th 2005

Call to Order

Vice-President Antonio Rosales called the meeting to order at 6:35 p.m. at Round Table Pizza on Marlow Road.

 Teams Present

Present: Black Oaks, Bushwhackers, Empire F.C., Forestville United, Maximum Force, Shockers, Sonoma United

 Approval of Minutes

The July minutes were not reviewed and approved because the secretary forgot to do them. (Oops!)

 Reports of Officers and Committees

Justin Connor, President: Not present. Moved away.

Antonio Rosales, Vice President: Only two red cards issued last year, which is good news. Received a lot of complaints about unmarked fields. He told players that it was up to the managers to vote on whether or not they want to spend the money to mark the fields. Last year they voted “no.” Some other managers in the room said that they thought the fields were fine. Others agreed that they were a problem. Especially Forestville. Ref coordinator said he had rec’d no negative feedback from refs re: unmarked fields.

The tournament went well in July. Eight teams participated, including two new teams from the area that wanted to join the league this year. (Antonio to contact them.)

Tony Mazzola, Treasurer: League account has $2600 left over from last year. Tony is resigning, and has all the paperwork ready to pass to the newly elected person.

Brian Peddinghaus, Ref Coordinator: Willing to do job again this year. Could use help in getting more refs.

Luis Medina, Webmaster: Willing to maintain site this year for a cost of approximately $500.

Although Rolf Stevens was not present, his name was put forth as a worthy candidate for the Field Coordinator position given his impressive organizational and interpersonal skills.

Website: Two managers suggested that the website indicate that we need new teams for the league. Luis pointed out that the website has rec’d lots of requests from folks wanting to join teams, but the league lacks willing managers. Agreed that website would express need for teams, managers, and players. Luis also pointed out that many of the people posting requests on the website were under 30. This sparked a discussion on whether or not to create an open division within the league to get more teams in. After a bit of back-and-forth (perhaps we could make the A division an open division), it was decided to table this discussion until the January meeting.

Brian Peddinghaus expressed reservations about playing on some of the poorer fields (Kenilworth) at the beginning of the season due to possible injuries. Suggested that we maybe use some of the league funds to rent artificial fields in the spring when the good fields are not yet available. Antonio said he was looking into the possibility of renting some artificial fields.

Karen Doweling, president of the women’s outdoor league, attended the meeting to discuss possible coordination and cost-splitting of field marking this year. Acknowledged that in 2004 SCACSL was “screwed over” by the women’s league president. But this year the league is ready to split the costs/responsibilities. Proposed plan: Every other week SCACSL responsible for marking fields. (Two Galvin fields, Forestville field, two Wiseman fields.) Women’s league to mark in between weeks. (Women’s league owns their own equipment and marks the fields themselves.) The marking would start in April and end in June. (To be resolved: our season starts mid-March. And we only use Wiseman for 2 weeks.) We would have the option of buying equipment and doing it ourselves, or hiring someone. Karen buys cheap paint online at episoccer.com. Decided to vote on next meeting.

Luis Medina suggested we make up fliers and cards advertising the fact that we need more teams/managers ASAP. Antonia said he could get his company to print the fliers and cards if Luis could design them. Luis agreed.

Brian Peddinghaus and Antonio Rosales reminded managers that teams get a 10% discount at Soccer & Sports. Just mention your team.

Antonio reported that he may be able to reserve the SSU fields for the Investor’s Trust tournament this year for a small fee. SSU says the fields are free the first and second weekends in May, so we need to decide on a weekend. As usual, Investor’s Trust will donate drinks and awards. Need at least 8 teams. If we get a lot of teams, may do a 30+ division and an open division.

Season starts third weekend in March. All registration due by end of February.

The manager of Anarchy (Tony Mazzola) is not managing the team this year and does not think anyone else on the team will do it. Justin Connor of Sonoma Mercury is also gone. Not sure about status of teams. Secretary will try to get contact info for someone else on teams (from Registrar) to see what their status is.

Antonio has reserved the room for the whole year at Round Table. Meetings are always the first Sunday of each month (unless there’s a holiday, then the second Sunday). We need to spend about $50/meeting on food and beverages.

At the next meeting, Registrar will pass out paperwork needed to register players. If you are unable to attend the meeting, please contact Dave directly: 838-7770 (H) and 543-3444 (fax).

Meeting Adjourned at 7:30 p.m.

Next scheduled meeting: Sunday Jan 8th (not the 1st) at the Round Table Pizza on Marlow (at Guerneville Road, in the Safeway shopping center) at 6:30 p.m.
